My Switch to Using Natural Beauty Skin Care

Hi my lovlies, I hope you are all well. Do you know that modern day branded skincare products often contain harsh ingredients that dry the skin out and may cause long-term health consequences?  After I found this out a few years ago, my love for creating natural, organic skincare mixes grew and I now love to make my own serums, face masks, face toners and elixirs.

Growing up I suffered from mild acne. no matter what I tried on my skin, nothing would help. I literally went through all the medicated creams available over the counter, visited my doctor about my skin and got no where.  I cleansed, toned and exfoliated religiously,  but still the acne was there.  Then I decided to change things up and try making my own  serums, face masks and face mists. That way I knew exactly what was going into my products and could avoid the nasties like alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), parabens and synthetics going onto my skin.  Making this change has really helped my skin and I can say it now looks the best it ever has.  Let me know if you’d like me to post some information on the ingredients to avoid in skin care. It’s a very interesting topic and one I am passionate about.

I started by doing a bit of research into the different oils and mixes available and their benefits, then I tried blends out to see which ones suited my skin. My skin type is combination, so I do find that if I use oils more than 3 times a week, I get a shiny T-zone during the day (T-zone is the forehead, nose and chin area). So I tend to use my DIY serum 3 evenings a week after I’ve cleansed, toned and taken my makeup off. Although I love making my own serums, face masks and face mists, I don’t have time to measure each quantity out in millilitres and ounces, like the professionals do.  I understand this gives more accurate measurements, but I want to make blends that are easy and quick to make and use measurements even I can understand! (professional organic mixers look away please!) so using equivalent tablespoons and drops is my thing. I enjoy the mixing process so adding in anything to do with measurements make its all too technical for me which is another reason why I prefer working in spoon and drops measurements. Let me know your thoughts on this too.

I’m not saying that I don’t use any branded skincare at all, I do and of course I plaster the makeup on, on almost a daily basis. But when it comes to  my night time cleansing routine I like to keep it as natural as possible. When I do go for branded skin care I tend to go for moisturisers and eye creams that contain some natural ingredients. Nowadays, brands are more conscious of the demand for added natural goodness in products, so a lot of them are offering more choice.  I personally love Liz Earle products which contain a range of different oils to hydrate your skin. My particular favourites are the Superskin Eye Cream and the Moisturiser for sensitive skin.
